Dragon and Mermaid

So I've just returned from the San Diego Comicon and I have to say I had a really great time! I spent quality time with some really great people and I'll miss them all.

I got a portfolio review with Wizards of the Coast and Jeremy Jarvis, the art director says that I'm REALLY close. He responded to the traditional work in my portfolio and encouraged me to do more of that, believing I have some proficiency there. And the truth is that seems to be EVERYONE'S opinion. Todd Lockwood (who is a completely awesome person to hang with) Irene Gallo (who is another completely awesome person) Allen Williams (YET another person completely awesome) all say the same thing. Do the oils! So. That's what I'll be focusing my energies on from now on. I'll more than likely keep the digital work in the underpainting stage but I'll be finishing my portfolio pieces traditionally. Wish me luck!

Here are my latest couple of pieces. The mermaid was a life drawing where the model showed up dressed as a mermaid, so I ran with it. The dragon piece was me confronting my fears of doing a multi-figure composition with creatures and scenery. These will probably be the last digital pieces I'll be posting for a while:

Hi Mark, long time no speak.

Hope your doing well. Looking through your work now shows a vast improvement from when I last viewed it, your work was great before now its stunning.

I have to agree with the consensus, your oils are great, they have a greater depth and vibrancy than digital work show.

Now I've found your blog I'll be able to view your art more frequently now.

Take care mate.
